In fact, it’s one of the oldest cuts because most diamond crystals are square, and early cutters simply rounded off the edges of the crystal creating a cushion shaped diamond. And the shape, which resembles a rounded-off square, has a very pleasing appearance. Unfortunately, most cushion cut diamonds are cut very deeply to retain weight, and don’t have very much life to them.
